A scam involving text messages demanding court appearances has been circulating in the area.
According to the Lake Arthur Police Department, the text message instructs the recipient to call “Pretrial Services of Acadia Parish” at a number outside the 337 area code. It also warns that local authorities will be dispatched to “serve defendants to appear in court.”
This message is likely a scam aimed at obtaining money or personal information from the victim. Police advise anyone who receives such a text to disregard it.
