The Malden Police Department has issued a warning to Malden Public School students to be cautious of scam emails in their school inboxes.

According to a statement released on Friday, the scam targets students within the Malden school system. The emails appear to come from staff members but are actually sent by scammers attempting to lure students into a fake “job opportunity.”

The scam involves convincing students to send personal and banking information via email, under the pretense of depositing a check. Reports indicate that scammers then threaten victims through text messages, demanding compliance and sending images of firearms along with explicit threats of physical violence.

Police have stated that these threats are not credible and are meant to scare the victims. They urge all residents to never share personal information online, especially if the identity of the person requesting it cannot be verified.
