The Process of Mystery Shopper Scams

By ScamRipper Jul 9, 2012

The Mystery shopper scam is that the check is fake. The check bounces after the person wires the funds, leaving the person liable for the fake check. Individuals who apply for the secret shopper or mystery shopper jobs are told by the company that they have only 48 hours to complete the project or they will lose the job.

The scam artists use realistic looking documents, the ‘secret’ nature of the job, and the 48-hour deadline to pressure consumers in to cashing the check and wiring the funds quickly before the bank or the consumer can choose it was a fake check.

“Guarantee” a job as a mystery, secret, or analytical shopper.

Charge a fee for applying or charge a fee for access to secret shopping job opportunities. You ought to not pay any fee to apply or to get job knowledge.

Appear to be located in places outside the country, if the company does not have an established office nearby that you can visit in person, be cautious.

It is always a nice suggestion to check with the Better Business Bureau and inquire in to any business offering this type of employment.
