A 57-year-old man from Emmaus, Pennsylvania, has lost more than $62,000 in a cryptocurrency scam, according to state police.
The Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville reported that the man realized on July 15 that he had been duped. The scam involved a fraudster posing as a well-known cryptocurrency investor and entrepreneur, convincing the victim to provide financial information.
The scam began in October 2023 through a Google Workspace chat and continued until early April, as stated in a police news release.
During this period, the victim received what he believed to be legitimate assistance in setting up several bitcoin transactions. Over seven months, he invested a total of $62,115.
When the victim attempted to access the funds, he discovered that all the money was gone.
The Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville are investigating the scheme. The victim has also reported the scam to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
