Justin Fort – scammer of the day

By ScamRipper Jun 4, 2024 #male scammer

Justin Fort, a romance scammer, has been involved in fraudulent activities that have exploited numerous victims, primarily targeting vulnerable individuals such as widows, widowers, and divorcees. Using fake identities, he would establish romantic relationships online and manipulate his victims into sending him substantial amounts of money.

Fort’s schemes often involved posing as someone in need of financial help, such as a soldier stationed overseas or a person with access to valuable assets like gold or diamonds that needed to be transferred. For example, he managed to persuade a widower from New York to wire $7,400 by pretending to be a woman with inherited gold held in Canada. Another victim, a divorcee, was convinced to send over $100,000 under the pretext of helping to transfer gold and diamonds.

Apart from romance scams, Fort was also involved in unemployment fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizing stolen identities to fraudulently obtain benefits from multiple states. This additional scheme significantly increased the amount of money he swindled from his victims.

Fort, originally from Ghana, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2018. His criminal activities continued for over two years while he was stationed at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) before his arrest in March 2023. He was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison and ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in restitution to his victims.
