A finance employee transfers $39 million following a video call with a deepfake impersonating the company’s “chief financial officer.”
A finance employee at a multinational corporation fell victim to a sophisticated scam where fraudsters utilized deepfake technology to impersonate the company’s CFO in a video conference. Hong Kong police revealed that the worker was deceived into attending a video call with what he believed to be fellow colleagues, all of whom were actually deepfake replicas.
“In the multi-person video conference, it turns out that everyone (he saw) was fake,” remarked Senior Superintendent Baron Chan Shun-ching during a briefing with public broadcaster RTHK.

Giant dust storm engulfs urban area in Australia.
On February 6, 1983, Melbourne was engulfed by a massive dust storm, towering up to 320 meters tall, surpassing even the city’s tallest skyscraper at the time. The phenomenon resulted from strong winds stirring up soil from the Mallee region in regional Victoria, depositing thousands of tons of dust onto Melbourne.
