Letter 1

Hi, my dear Henry, I’m so happy to receive your letter. Your messages mean more and more to me with each passing day, and they bring me so much joy. I’ve finally made a decision about my work at the clinic—I’ll be a surgeon! Soon I’ll be on vacation, and when I return, I’ll be working as a senior surgeon. I hope you’re happy for me; being a surgeon is my true passion.
Today, I was a bit late for work because of an unexpected situation. My neighbor, an elderly woman named Klava, came over in the morning with a problem. Her door was broken, and she couldn’t close it. She lives alone—her husband passed away five years ago—and there’s no one around to help her. I went to check the door, and although we tried, we couldn’t fix it. I’m not very good at carpentry, as you can imagine (laughs). It turned out the lock was broken, and we needed a professional’s help. Klava was disappointed, and I tried to calm her down because she’s not well, and stress is bad for her health. She should have been hospitalized, but she refused and is now taking daily injections.
I promised to ask a carpenter for help. There’s a man in our clinic who handles repairs, though he has some bad habits, like drinking. However, they say he has "golden hands," meaning he’s great at fixing things. I plan to ask him to help Klava with her door and also look at my roof. I don’t know if he’ll agree, but I’ll try. It’s important to help older people, especially since the government doesn’t provide much assistance for them. Pensions are tiny, and there’s little social aid. The medical system is not free either, and elderly people often spend their entire pension on medicine. It’s an unfortunate situation, but I try to do what I can.
By the way, I don’t think I’ve told you about my diploma. I have a European-standard diploma, which allows me to work as a doctor in your country.

Hello, my dear Henry, I’m writing to you with a happy heart. It’s so comforting to have someone like you to confide in, and I’m grateful for our connection. I know we’re far apart right now, but I hope one day we’ll meet in person. I think we’ll both be happy when that day comes.
Marina asks about you every day, and I always tell her that I’m thinking about you. I enjoy reading your letters—they mean a lot to me. I feel like you understand me, and you’re such a unique person who truly cares.
I want to share something important with you. I believe that friendship is the foundation of any relationship. Passion and affection are wonderful, but a couple must know how to handle each other in everyday life.
Friendship helps in that regard, don’t you think? I want my soulmate to be my best friend too. Emotional connection is so important for me, so we can feel comfortable and at ease with each other.
Reading your letters, I feel that you’re being honest and sincere with me, and I want to do the same. You know, I have a dream of finding true love—the kind where two people love and care for each other deeply, forever. When I find that special person, I want to give him all of my tenderness, care, and love. What’s your dream, Henry? What do you want most in life? I’m really curious to know your thoughts and dreams.
It’s a shame that so many Russian men have fallen into alcoholism. I remember years ago, when my mom and I had to build a fence around our house. We couldn’t do it ourselves, but when my mom went to buy nails, three men asked what she needed them for. When they found out that it was for a young lady and her daughter, they laughed at first. But later, they came over and built the fence for us. They refused to accept payment, and the only thing we could offer was to feed them pancakes. That moment stuck with me, and to this day, pancakes are my favorite food.
Yesterday, I was thinking about my future work at the clinic. I’m so excited that I’ll be doing my favorite job soon. I don’t need to study further since I already have my European-standard diploma.
I’m also wondering how to spend this month. I don’t want to waste any time. Of course, I’ll keep writing to you, but I still need to figure out how to make the most of my free time.
I’ve never imagined that I could find such a good friend through the internet. But now, I can say that meeting you feels like I’ve known you for much longer. You understand me, and your dreams and intentions are so close to mine. You’ve become dear to my heart, and I’m always here to listen, understand, and help you if you ever need it.

I imagined that one day, maybe we’ll wake up next to each other, and the first thing you’ll do is kiss me and wish me a good morning. I’ll do the same for you. Doesn’t that sound lovely? Who knows—maybe one day, that will be a reality. What do you think? Would you like that?
