Letter 1

Hi Wim, As promised, I’d like to share more about myself with you. My name is Yelyzaveta, and I’m 28 years old. I’ve never been married and I don’t have children. I’m 5’4” (166 cm) tall and weigh 110 lbs (51 kg), so you can get an idea of what I look like from my pictures.
I work as a shop assistant, selling women’s clothing such as skirts, trousers, and blouses. I live in Novosibirsk, Russia, which is located towards the center of the country, at the beginning of Siberia. I’ve been thinking about moving to your country and I plan to apply for a student visa. I’ve made this decision because I’m eager to live in a more stable country, as life here can be very complicated.
While I know moving abroad won’t be easy, I believe I can achieve much more in your country than I can here. I’m a hard-working person, and I’m not afraid of challenges. I’ve actually lived and worked abroad before, in Australia, and I really enjoyed the experience. I know what to expect and I’m excited about the possibilities in your country.
During my time in Australia, I had a relationship with a man, but I had to return to Russia when my visa expired. He didn’t want to wait for me any longer, which was a difficult experience, but I’ve moved on. I’ve tried connecting with people online, but once they found out I was from Russia, they assumed I was a scammer and disappeared.
I hope you don’t feel the same way. I want to assure you that I’m not a scammer, and I don’t need money from you. I’ve heard a lot about scams, and it saddens me that many women who are genuinely seeking happiness are misunderstood. The internet is a great way to meet people, and I hope we can build a real connection.
I’m just an average Russian girl who is genuinely looking for friendship or something more. I hope you’re interested, and I look forward to hearing back from you. Maybe we will meet in person in the future.

Hi Wim, I’d like to share a little more about myself in this letter. As I mentioned, my name is Yelyzaveta, but you can call me Angel—that’s my nickname, and all my friends use it. I live in a small apartment, and unfortunately, I don’t have a computer, so I write to you from an internet café.
I’ve mentioned that I’m planning to move to your country. I’ll be applying for a student visa, which I expect to receive in about a month. With this visa, I’ll be able to work and study, so I’ll be financially independent. We could then spend time together in person, and I’m looking forward to that.
I also mentioned that I lived in Australia when I was 18. I stayed there for about six years, and I became fluent in English during that time. I really loved living there, but I had to leave when my visa expired. I was in a relationship, but he didn’t want to continue waiting for me, so I returned to Russia. I don’t like to dwell on this, and I’d prefer not to talk more about it unless you’d like to know more when we get to know each other better.
Living in Russia has been difficult. It’s a very corrupt country, and there is no democracy under President Putin. Jobs are hard to come by, and life can be frustrating.
