Letter 1
Hi Wim,
Unfortunately, I can’t talk to you online right now because I write my letters from the internet cafe, and the time there is limited. I wish I could chat with you, but it’s just not possible at the moment since I don’t have a personal computer. However, I’ll keep sending you emails and pictures.
As I mentioned, I rent my apartment and don’t have a phone there, so I can’t call you. I’ve already given you my phone number, and I hope you received it. But my phone can’t make calls to other countries due to the limitations here in Russia.
Yes, I’m planning to move to your country in about a month. I’m going to apply to a university or college, and I’m currently working on all the paperwork for that. That’s why I asked you about the colleges or universities near your area. I’d love to study and be able to meet you there. I plan to live on campus—would you like that? Would you like me to live near your district?
Don’t forget to send me your photos! Once I finish this letter, I’m going to take a short walk. Walking is one of my favorite activities. It’s so nice to take a long walk and then stop at a small café for a cup of coffee. I don’t have a car right now, and honestly, I don’t really want one at the moment since it’s too expensive. I’ve never tried driving and don’t have a license. Walking is much more pleasant for me.
Unfortunately, most of the time I have to walk alone because my friends are married and spend most of their time with their families. I also love going to the movies, but I don’t do it often. I usually go with friends, but they don’t have the time as they prefer to spend time with their husbands and children. Since I don’t have children or a husband, I try not to bother them too often. Sometimes I feel a bit lonely, but I try not to dwell on it too much.
Anyway, my city is too beautiful not to walk around. It’s a lovely place with many cultural landmarks and monuments. It’s especially beautiful in the spring and summer when everything comes alive after the winter. There are many parks, and we have a lovely boulevard with fountains—it’s gorgeous. We also have some beautiful churches. I’m a Christian, but I’m not very religious. I believe in my own faith, and I go to church occasionally, though I’m not fanatic about it.
I love nature and enjoy spending time in the countryside, whether it’s for a picnic or camping. It’s wonderful to spend a day outdoors, especially with friends or family. Sometimes I do feel sad because I miss having my special someone by my side. But I’m not going to let that bring me down because I believe everything will work out in the end.
Please tell me about your city. What is it like? What’s interesting there?
Take care,
Eniola
Letter 2
Hi Wim,
I hope you received my last letter with my home address. Did you like my pictures? I have a close friend named Vika who takes all my photos—she loves photography. I enjoy posing for her.
I came back to the internet cafe to write to you again. As I mentioned before, I’m planning to arrive in your country in a month. I’m still deciding on which college to attend, but I’ll let you know the name as soon as I have all the details. I should know everything within the next week.
I’m at the post office right now because I decided to send a letter to my parents. As I mentioned, I don’t have the best relationship with them, but they are still my parents, and I love them. I also have a younger brother, and they give him all their attention and love. My mom always wanted a son, and when she finally had one, she was overjoyed. Of course, it hurts sometimes that they care more for him and don’t show much interest in my life. But if they’re happy, I’m happy for them.
My last relationship ended two years ago. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out because he was always too busy with his friends and didn’t pay attention to me. It felt like I was just an accessory to him. Since then, I haven’t been in another relationship.
I need to go now because more people are arriving at the internet cafe, and my time is limited. This place isn’t like a library where you can use the computer for free—it’s a paid service. When I lived in Australia, I often went to the library and could use the computer as long as I wanted, but here, the time is restricted due to high demand.
Please tell me about your family. What is your relationship like with them?
P.S. In my last letter, I asked you for your address because I want to send you a card and a picture, or maybe a handwritten letter.
Take care,
Eniola.
