Letter 1

Hi Wim, How are you today? Unfortunately, I’m not in the best mood at the moment. I had a terrible conflict at work. Some people in Russia believe that if they have a lot of money, they can do and say whatever they want. I had an unpleasant encounter with a wealthy woman at work. She didn’t like the quality of the clothes I was showing her and was extremely rude. But I’m just a shop assistant—I don’t own the store; I just sell things.
Sometimes, I feel exhausted by life here in Russia. I have so little. I rent a small apartment and can’t afford anything better. My salary is very low, and the prices keep increasing every year. But the salaries stay the same. For instance, I was shocked when I went to buy groceries yesterday. The prices for milk products went up again, and it now costs around one Euro, which is a lot. My monthly salary is about 10,000 Russian rubles, which is roughly 120 Euros. I think you can imagine how little that is. Half of it goes towards my rent, and the rest is spent on food.
I am so tired of this life. That’s why I’m saving money for a trip and a fresh start in another country. I want to leave Russia and build a new life elsewhere. I want to get a better education, find a stable job, and live in a more peaceful environment. I’m working on getting a student visa now, and I plan to study and work to cover both my tuition and living expenses there.
I haven’t decided which university I’ll attend yet, but I’m trying to find one close to you. The visa should be ready in about a month, but I’m not sure of the exact dates yet. I will keep you updated as I find out more.
I dream of a more stable life—one where I can have a family of my own, with a strong and loving man by my side. That’s why I’m saving every penny I can for this journey.
I’m sorry for sharing this with you, but I really needed to talk to someone. Sometimes, it’s hard to go through this on my own. I trust you because you’ve been so understanding, and you’re a friend to me.
Right now, I’m going to take a bath and relax. I love lying in the tub with foam—it’s so relaxing and peaceful. It would be wonderful to do this together, don’t you think? Hi Wim, Did you like my funny photo? I hope it made you smile.
First of all, I want to apologize for complaining in my previous letter. That wasn’t my intention. It was just that I was having a rough time, and sometimes we all need a friend to lean on. I hope you don’t mind me sharing that moment with you. You’re someone I trust, and that’s why I turned to you.
I’ve been thinking a lot about meeting you, and I want to meet you even more now. I’m in the middle of getting all the paperwork for my student visa, and I’m hopeful that it will come through. Once I get it, I’ll be in your country, and I truly think this will be a great opportunity for us to meet in person.
Please be honest with me—do you really want to see me? Do you think we could like each other and perhaps build a future together? I know you must be tired of hearing me ask, but I hope you understand why I have to know your feelings. This is a big decision for me, and I don’t take it lightly.
I’m sure you might be wondering why I want to leave Russia so badly. The answer is simple: I have nothing holding me here. I have no family to miss, and while I’ll miss my friends, they already have their own families and lives. I don’t have a good job, stability, or the kind of future I dream of. Life here feels hard, and I don’t think it will improve.
That’s why I want to move, to study, and to finally build the life I’ve always wanted. I hope you understand and support me in this decision.
Please forgive me if I don’t always answer your questions right away. My time at the internet cafe is limited to just 15 minutes, and I often have to rush through my replies. I come here three times a week to write, and I’m doing my best to keep in touch with you.

Hi Wim, Today, I wanted to tell you a little more about why I’m alone. Sometimes, it feels like men only see me as a pretty picture and not as a real woman. But with you, I feel different. I think you appreciate my spirit first, not just my appearance. That’s why I feel so comfortable talking to you. I’ve never felt this way with any other man.
I want you to know that I really like you, and I think we have a lot in common. Maybe when we meet, we’ll realize that we’re a great match. I’m still working on getting all the necessary information for my student visa, and although there’s a lot to do, I believe it will all be worth it. I’m determined to come to your country, and I’m confident I’ll get my visa.
I want to know if you’d be willing to meet me when I get there. You’re already a close friend to me, and I like you very much. I feel that there’s something between us, and I hope you feel the same. Of course, I don’t know you fully yet, but I feel that we’re already quite close. I’d love to get to know you better—spend time together, cook together, have dinner, watch movies, and take walks holding hands.
Letters are wonderful, but they can only show so much. Meeting in person would reveal our true feelings. Please tell me if you’d like to meet me. I really hope so, as I’d love to experience real life with you. I trust you already, and I hope you trust me too.
By the way, my friend Vika is the one who takes all my photos. She’s a talented photographer and always says I have a beautiful body. We work together, and she’s been kind enough to take two new pictures for me today. I’ll send them in my next letter.
Right now, I’m heading out to get more information about the visa. I’m hoping for good news soon.
