Letter 1
Hi my dear Henry,
I'm so happy to receive your letter. I find myself needing your messages more and more each day—they bring me so much joy. I’ve made a decision about my work at the clinic, and I’m excited to share that I will be a surgeon. Soon, I’ll be on holiday, and during that time, I’ll be working as the senior surgeon. I hope you’re happy for me, as being a surgeon is truly my passion.
Today, I was late to work because my neighbor, an older woman named Klava, came to see me. She’s a very kind and helpful person, and we always look out for each other. She had a problem with her door—it wouldn’t close, and as she lives alone (her husband passed away five years ago), she couldn’t fix it herself. I went over to help, but we couldn’t fix it; I’m not great with repairs, unfortunately (smile). It turned out the lock was broken, and we needed a professional.
Klava was quite upset, so I did my best to calm her down. She has health issues and shouldn’t stress too much, but it’s hard for her when something like this happens. She’s been refusing to go to the hospital, though she has to take daily injections. I promised to find someone to help, and luckily, there’s a man at the clinic who does repairs. He drinks a bit, but he’s very good with his hands, so I’ll ask him to help Klava with her door. I’ll also see if he can help with a roof issue I’ve been dealing with.
It’s so important to help older people. Unfortunately, in Russia, the government doesn’t provide enough support for the elderly. Pensions are very low, and they often can’t afford the medication they need. It’s a sad situation, and I wish things were better for them. I’m not involved in politics, but I do care about social welfare.
Oh, I don’t think I’ve told you about my diploma. I have a European-standard diploma, which qualifies me to work as a doctor in your country.
Looking forward to your next letter!
Yours, Zhansaya
Letter 2
Hello my dear Henry,
I’m so happy to be writing you today. It’s such a joy to have you in my life, even though we are far apart. I hope that one day, we will meet and have the chance to see each other in person. I’m already looking forward to that.
Marina asks about you all the time, and I tell her that I’m thinking about you constantly. I really enjoy reading your letters, and it’s such a relief to know that you understand me. You’re a unique person who cares for me, and that means a lot to me.
I’ve been reflecting a lot on friendship and its importance in a relationship. Passion and affection are wonderful, but for a lasting connection, two people need to be able to work together in everyday life. Do you understand what I mean? I believe that true friendship between partners is vital for a strong relationship. I hope that my soulmate will also be my best friend, someone I can rely on and feel completely comfortable with.
As I read your letters, Henry, I feel that you are open and sincere with me, sharing so much about yourself. I want to do the same and be equally honest with you. I have a dream: to find true love. I want to meet someone special who will love me and take care of me, just as I would do for him. I want our love to last forever. When I find that special person, I will give him all of my tenderness, love, and care.
What about you? What is your biggest dream? What do you want most from life? I’m very curious to know what you think and what your dreams are.
It’s such a shame that so many Russian men struggle with alcoholism. I remember a time years ago when my mother and I had to build a fence around our house. We couldn’t do it alone, but three kind men helped us. They didn’t want any payment, only that we feed them pancakes. Since then, pancakes have become my favorite dish. They even came back the next day to paint the fence for us, again refusing to take money. It’s these kinds of small acts of kindness that stay with me.
As for my work, I’m thrilled to be doing what I love. I don’t need to study further because my European-standard diploma is sufficient. But I don’t want to waste this month of free time—I want to make the most of it. Writing to you will take up part of my day, but I need to figure out what to do with the rest of my time. I’ll keep thinking about it.
And, Henry, I want you to know that I never expected to find such a wonderful person through the internet. But now that I’ve met you, I feel like I’ve known you for a long time. You’re someone who understands me, and whose dreams and values are so close to mine. You are dear to me, and I’m always here to listen, understand, and support you.
I’ll finish my letter now, but I look forward to hearing from you soon. You’re always in my thoughts.
With tender hugs and kisses,
Zhansaya
P.S. I also wanted to share something fun—I love riding a snowmobile in the winter and a motorcycle in the summer! Do you enjoy riding too? I’ll send you a couple of videos to watch.
