I met a woman named Ekaterina Smirnova through the Mingle2 dating site and we communicated for about 2 weeks On the site, she claimed to be living in Luhansk, Ukraine, but later gave different locations of Kirovsk and Kharkov; her stated age was 25, but she changed it to 27 in correspondence. Immediately, she asked to communicate only through email ekaterinasmirnova@meta.ua she sent 9 photos, and we exchanged 9 letters. In her letters, she professed to be single, never married, and living with her sister and nephews. Her mother died when she was a teenager and she confessed that she had a father, but was not close to him. She professed to be looking for a serious relationship leading to love and marriage and stated, somewhat ironically, that she was not into any games here and I’m tired of not serious fakes and scammers online which waste my time." She implied she was not working because of the war and had to move back to her home town and look for a job as a secondary school English teacher. Her letters raised alarm bells early on. She lied about her age and location, and when she told me her birthday, it did not match either declared age. She repeated letters and passages from letters without seeming to be aware she was doing it. She was upfront about not wanting to write "endless emails" and wanting to meet in real life "in the near future. Her photos did not show a poor girl, as she claimed, but women in model poses. When I checked them online, I found that she was not only posting stolen images of model. I confronted her with this information and she disappeared.
